Our client, a Munich-based leader in digital health, specializes in creating innovative digital patient companions for complex, chronic conditions. With a strong focus on patient-centered healthcare, the company offers a data platform that combines various data sources to provide insights into patient journeys. They stand out for their ability to produce real-world data, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of patient needs and valuable insights for Pharmaceutical company clients.
Upon joining our client, we quickly assimilated into the existing product development framework. We provided direction and structure to multiple teams from sales, and data, to tech teams, identifying and assigning responsibilities that aligned with our product goals. This rapid onboarding was key to gaining trust and driving immediate impact.
It was crucial to understand and address the needs of their B2B Pharma clients, who use the Data platform to gain insights into various aspects of patient journeys and the disease. With the user-centric approach, we worked closely with teams in engineering, data science, design, marketing, sales, and other stakeholders to create innovative and scalable data products.
Our focus was on conducting technical feasibility experiments and carefully balancing the trade-offs between scope, quality, and speed to manage feasibility risks. While conducting careful assessment, communicated effectively with senior leadership and cross-functional teams on product plans, progress, challenges, and outcomes.
We tackled various challenges head-on, managing ambiguity and setting up robust processes for continuous improvement.
The team was suffering from ambiguity, especially with the heavy dependency on third-party data providers. While we could effectively plan and execute the development work of the dashboards on our side, the MedApps Company was relying on third-party data providers for the source data that are used in the widgets. The providers’ frequent failure to meet the source data delivery deadlines, and the sub-standard data quality which required time-consuming reiterations, endangered our delivery commitment to the clients.
To mitigate this risk, we implemented ‘buffers’ in our roadmap for data deliveries to manage expectations. In addition, we came up with a development method using mock data. Before, the development team had to be blocked if the data wasn’t delivered and ingested first. We transformed the process by creating simple dummy data that have similar structures to the data we requested. By developing the dashboards with these mock data, we could continue the development process regardless of the data delivery delays - and whenever the data is delivered, it could be ingested into the dashboard already being developed, with relatively minor post-ingestion adjustments.
The existing product infrastructure at our client was highly customized for each client, which posed challenges in scalability and adaptability. To address this, we aided in transitioning the product to a new, more scalable architecture.
This shift facilitated the reuse of many components across clients, significantly enhancing the team's ability to handle increasing data volumes and diverse customer requirements more efficiently.
